![]() ![]() We don’t believe in that for our reviews, so why would we do it with our book lists?Įvery year, from now on, the team at IBR will share the best books they’ve read that year regardless of the book’s publication date. Matter of fact, many review platforms only review books that are about to come out or have come out in the same year. ![]() If a book isn’t featured on an end-of-the-year list in its publication year, it likely will never be included in one. On top of that, these lists give authors and presses only one chance to appear on them. ![]() Should we always put this harness on the concept of the year’s best reading? Why would they? Most books don’t spoil paperbacks are cheaper than hardcovers book recommendations don’t come only in the year of publication. ![]() I love end of the year book lists ( obviously), but I don’t limit myself to reading only the books that were published in a given year. It’s the books that matter, not the year on the copyright page. “ What are the best books you read this year?“ĭo you say, “Well, are you talking about 2021 releases?”īecause you heard the question correctly: What are the best books you read this year? ![]()

![]() ![]() Many of you are already familiar with Jason’s work, but if you’re not, he is really good. It takes place in California in the 1970s. This next one is called Monster Hunter Memoirs: Fever, by me and Jason Cordova. In the last update I mentioned that there will be more Monster Hunter Memoirs novels, in the style started by John Ringo, but featuring different hunters in different time periods away from the mainline series, where I’ll collaborate with a different author. Noir Fatale did really well, so I’m excited for this opportunity to do more in this genre. Kacey is awesome, and I loved working with her last time. ![]() I’ll announce the authors once that is totally pinned down, but we’ve got some great and talented authors lined up for these. The third volume the theme is the city, and it’s called Down These Mean Streets. This next one is called No Game for Gentlemen, and the theme is detectives. The first one the theme was femme fatales. Up first, there will be two more volumes of noir sci-fi/fantasy anthologies like Noir Fatale, and I’ll be editing them along with Kacey Ezell again. I mentioned these in the last update, but couldn’t elaborate because contracts were still in the mail, but I’ve got three new projects on the way. ![]() ![]() One who isn’t bothered that I am Alyce, the Dark Grace, abhorred and feared for the mysterious dark magic that runs in my veins. Not the way they care about their jewels and elaborate parties and charm-granting elixirs. Let me tell you, no one in Briar actually cares about what happens to its princesses. You’ve heard this before, haven’t you? The handsome prince. A curse that could only be broken by true love’s kiss. “Walter’s spellbinding debut is for all the queer girls and women who’ve been told to keep their gifts hidden and for those yearning to defy gravity.”-O: The Oprah Magazine Once upon a time, there was a wicked fairy who, in an act of vengeance, cursed a line of princesses to die. But in this “bewitching and fascinating” (Tamora Pierce) retelling of “Sleeping Beauty,” true love is more than a simple fairy tale. ![]() Synopsis A princess isn’t supposed to fall for an evil sorceress. ![]() Malice Author: Heather Walter Genre: Epic Release: File Size: 2.81 MB ![]() ![]() ![]() To keep the peace and restore prosperity, the authorities are now allowed to relocate children of dissidents, especially those of Asian origin, and libraries have been forced to remove books seen as unpatriotic-including the work of Bird’s mother, Margaret, a Chinese American poet who left the family when he was nine years old.īird has grown up disavowing his mother and her poems he doesn’t know her work or what happened to her, and he knows he shouldn’t wonder. For a decade, their lives have been governed by laws written to preserve “American culture” in the wake of years of economic instability and violence. Bird knows to not ask too many questions, stand out too much, or stray too far. Twelve-year-old Bird Gardner lives a quiet existence with his loving but broken father, a former linguist who now shelves books in a university library. ![]() A novel about a mother’s unbreakable love in a world consumed by fear. ![]() ![]() There is a suggestion of paranormal activity in "Monte Verita". Much of the plot of "Kiss Me Again, Stranger" takes place in a cemetery, which is a classic gothic horror setting, linking present with paranormal activity. However, the other stories in the collection are also heavily weighted in the paranormal for example, "The Apple Tree" tells the story of a man who believes that the spirit of his wife is inhabiting an old, neglected tree in his yard. There is something rather paranormal about a giant flock of birds who manage to organize themselves into an effective attacking force, yet this is the concept that the author presents to the reader in The Birds. Theme prevailing theme of the entire Going Home series ( The Survivalist Series) is to survive, judge and conquer. Advanced Theme Analysis For The Survivalist Series That is quite an accomplishment and I imagine it wasn’t cheap or easy. It truly is that good.Īngery American needs a huge attaboy for keeping the same narrator throughout all ten books and six years. That in itself should speak volumes about The Survivalist Series. I’ve “ listened” the first four books five times each and the last six will be four times each. My job is to help you navigate those points so you can make the best decision for your tastes before spending that hard-earned money or credits. As with any book series, this one has both good and not so good points to be made. I do, however, have a few criticisms to offer a little later. Angry American does a great job of balancing character and relationship building with a steady flow of action and drama. The books flow well together and rarely disappoint when it comes to fast-paced action. ![]() I thoroughly enjoyed the entire ten-books that make up The Survivalist Series. ![]() ![]() ![]() But is The Good Girl movie still happening? There is not a lot of action or sensationalistic drama, but the book happily offers a historically accurate portrayal of a young girl’s experience moving west with her family. In fact, the historical accuracy is probably the book’s most outstanding strength. It depicts the loneliness and hardships of pioneer life, when many Americans were slowly starting to move west to make a life and to build the country that we know today. The book is very realistic, down to earth, and presents the historical context and events in a very accurate way. ![]() ![]() Show More revolves around the life of a 10-year-old girl named Ann Hamilton who moves from Gettysburg Pennsylvania to the “Western Country” with her family, far away from the comforts of “civilization” in the eastern side of the infant yet growing United States. ![]() |
